LP®'s SmartGuard® Method
Why our Siding and Trim Lasts Longer
We apply a cutting-edge blend of bonding resins, waterproof waxes, and zinc borate to our flooring and siding materials. Next, we affix a moisture-repellent overlay that's fully infused with resin. The end result is an exceptionally tough composite wood capable of resisting extreme environments, pests, and mold deterioration.

Conversion
VENTED RIDGE CAP
Proper roof ventilation is critical. Without it, your building can begin to “sweat,” allowing moisture to accumulate inside the insulation—leading to potential mold growth and reduced performance.
6” EAVE OVERHANG WITH EAVE VENTS
Adding overhangs with multiple vents allows for better airflow through the roof system, helping prevent moisture buildup and extending the life of your shed.
DROP CEILING DESIGN
A drop ceiling creates an “attic” space, allowing air to circulate effectively from the eave vents up through the ridge cap. This airflow is key in controlling moisture and maintaining indoor comfort.
INSULATED WINDOWS
While not mandatory, insulated windows improve energy efficiency and help maintain a consistent indoor temperature with less strain on your heating and cooling systems.
INSULATED ENTRY DOORS
Standard shed doors are not designed for conditioned spaces and lack weatherstripping. Upgrading to an insulated exterior door prevents unwanted heat or cold from entering the space.
STRUCTURAL HEADERS OVER WINDOWS & DOORS
If you’re planning on permitting your conversion, you’ll likely need true structural headers to meet residential building codes. This ensures structural integrity.
ANCHORING THE BUILDING
Most municipalities require that buildings be anchored to the ground before issuing permits. Anchoring helps meet basic safety requirements and ensures compliance with local codes.
ENGINEERED DRAWINGS
If you’re planning to convert your shed into a tiny home, office, or similar finished space, it’s important to know that most inspections will require engineering drawings. In many cases, you may also need custom, built-to-spec drawings that detail window and door placements to meet code requirements.
Future-Proof Your Shed
Adding the options listed above does not guarantee that your building will meet local housing codes. These features are intended only as a starting point for conversion, and additional upfitting may be required.
It is the customer’s responsibility to consult with their local inspector and cover any costs associated with bringing the building up to code based on the inspector’s guidance.
We manufacture sheds; we do not build or certify tiny homes. However, some customers choose to work with contractors to complete the necessary modifications for residential use.
Frequently asked questions
How long will it take Alpine Buildings to build and deliver a custom order?
Our current lead times are 1-3 weeks on standard builds, however, this varies depending on the complexity and customization of the unit. At times, distributors struggle to keep up with the demands for specialty items due to the effects of COVID-19. This can further lengthen lead times by 1-2 weeks.
What size of opening do I need to get my building delivered on my property?
We recommend that the opening be at least two feet wider and three feet higher than the largest point of your building. This may vary depending on the model and size of the building and will be discussed with you before delivery.
What kind of warranty do Alpine Buildings offer for its products?
Our buildings come with a 10-year workmanship warranty certificate. Some of the materials we use also have a separate manufacturer's warranty. For example, LP Smart siding comes with a 5/50 prorated warranty, and our metal materials have a 40-year warranty. We strive to select materials with exemplary warranties. This ensures our customers are provided a premium, superior product that will outperform the competition. To submit a claim, visit our Warranty Claim Portal.
Can you build on-site?
Yes, when we have an available on-site specialist available. Although this service is not always possible, we strive to provide this option whenever we can.
